The studio

Small room. Big ideas about how hair should feel.

Roots Salon is a quiet, chair-counted studio along the Kittery/York coast — the kind of place where the kettle is on, the playlist is picked with care, and nobody's rushing to the next head. We opened because the salon experience we wanted didn't quite exist here yet: consult-first, low-tox, and stubbornly non-trendy.

Our thinking is simple. Hair is a living material. Coastal Maine is hard on it — sun, salt, wind, wood smoke, well water — and most of us don't want to spend forty-five minutes styling before work. So we build shapes and color that behave on their own, out of a small palette of low-tox lines we actually trust.

The visit

A calm, four‑beat ritual.

Every appointment moves through the same quiet shape, whether you're in for a bang trim or a full color day. Nothing skipped, nothing rushed.

i

Arrival

Tea or cold seltzer, a soft seat, and ten minutes with your hair down before we touch anything. We look, we listen, we ask.

ii

Consult

Photos, textures, your calendar, your patience level. A real plan, written down, before scissors or color come out.

iii

The work

Careful, unhurried service in a small room. We check in at natural pauses — nothing important is decided on autopilot.

iv

Send-off

Simple home-care notes (no shelf of bottles you won't use) and a rebook window that makes sense for your hair, not the calendar.

Book & Visit

Reserve a chair, or just say hello.

New guests always start with a short consultation, whether by message, phone, or in-studio. Tell us a little about your hair and we'll follow up with the right next step — no pressure, no upsell.
