Since a name that outran the wind

A small motel with a great name, a short walk from the Atlantic.

Named for the swift 1869 tea clipper, The Cutty Sark keeps the working-coast spirit of York Beach — quiet rooms, salt in the air, the ocean at the end of the block. Simple, well-kept, unhurried.

A borrowed name, an honest place

The fastest clipper of her day. A quiet motel of ours.

The original Cutty Sark was built on the Clyde in 1869 to race tea home from China. She was slim, fast, and famously outran ships twice her tonnage. When you borrow a name like that you don't try to live up to it — you try to be worthy of the spirit: honest work, done carefully, ready before dawn.

"Simple beds, clean rooms, and the sea a block away — that's the whole promise, and we intend to keep it."

York Beach has been welcoming visitors since the summer trains came up from Boston. We are a small piece of that tradition — the kind of motel where the porch light stays on and the coffee is ready when you head out for the sunrise.

The Rooms

Uncluttered, well-kept, quiet at night.

Every room is different because the building is older than any of the room-planning software people use now. We keep them plain on purpose. Windows open. Beds are firm. The ocean does the decorating.

Standard Queen

The Steersman

One queen bed, a good reading chair, and a window that catches the morning. The workhorse room — plain and calm.
