# Sun & Surf Menu Redesign — Rationale

## What was not working

- The breakfast, lunch/dinner, cocktail, and kids PDFs looked like four unrelated brands.
- Decorative graphics crossed live menu copy on the lunch/dinner pages.
- Prices floated inconsistently, slowing down scanning.
- Type styles changed radically between menus and several treatments felt dated rather than intentionally historic.
- Dense pages lacked a clear reading order, while the kids menu used oversized display type without enough structure.

## The redesign

- One coherent system drawn from the website concept: Atlantic navy, sun gold, warm paper, Alfa Slab One, and clean Karla body copy.
- Strong category bars, consistent two-column grids, right-aligned prices, and restrained descriptions.
- Familiar language shifted from generic labels to useful navigation: “Start Here,” “Sandwiches & Rolls,” “Dinner Plates,” and “Fresh & Zero-Proof.”
- Low-ink brand moments use the Local Legend language without covering menu content.
- Kids menu keeps the same family identity but becomes friendlier, simpler, and much easier to scan.
- Every page is US Letter, printer-safe, and marked as a concept until owner/factual review.

## Production boundary

Menu data and prices were transcribed from the four PDFs linked on the current official Sun & Surf website on 2026-07-16. The restaurant must confirm every item, price, dietary note, service rule, and legal disclaimer before printing or replacing the live files.
